Practical Considerations

Utility Notifications: Ensure all utility bills are being paid from an account that won’t be frozen during the probate process. This includes essential services like electricity, gas, water, internet, phone, and waste management. If these bills were previously paid from the deceased's account, switch payments to an active account to avoid service interruptions.

Pets: After a person's death, it's important to quickly decide who will care for their pets. If the deceased had a will, they might have named someone for this role. If not, family or friends may step in temporarily or permanently. The pets' needs—food, water, shelter, and medical care—should be prioritised. If there are multiple pets, consider whether they should be rehomed together or separately. For guidance, contact a local animal shelter.
