How Solicitors in Ireland Can Handle Revolut Accounts in Probate and Bereavement Cases

As of December 2024, Revolut has surpassed 3 million customers in Ireland, online banks are rapidly becoming the default choice for clients. These platforms are attractive for their ease of use, instant onboarding, and mobile-first experience but they can present challenges for estate administration, particularly for solicitors.

Revolut does not provide a dedicated phone line or physical postal address for bereavement cases. Solicitors accustomed to traditional banking processes sending letters, making phone calls, liaising with in-branch bereavement teams may find Revolut’s fully digital infrastructure unfamiliar and less accessible. Communications must be handled entirely via email, and the Revolut website is written primarily for next of kin, not legal professionals.

To bridge this gap, Simple Probate has worked directly with Revolut to clarify their bereavement process for solicitors and legal representatives. This guide outlines the specific documentation required and how to submit it correctly.

Submitting a Request to Revolut: What Solicitors Need

To request information about a deceased client’s account, solicitors must provide:

  • A true copy of the death certificate;

  • A letter of authority confirming they are acting on behalf of the executor, administrator, or inheritor.

To release funds from the account, Revolut additionally requires:

  • A completed Bereavement Form, signed either:

    • By the solicitor (see Page 3 of the form), or

    • By the executor/administrator/inheritor (see Page 2), with a true copy of their ID;

  • A copy of the Grant of Probate, Letters of Administration, or Inheritance Deed, where applicable.

Communication Protocol

Revolut does not offer phone support or postal contact for probate matters. All correspondence must be made via email:

The required Bereavement Form can be accessed here.

A Practical Solution for a Digital World

As digital banking becomes more prevalent, legal professionals must adapt to new processes. Simple Probate are committed to supporting solicitors in handling these digital transitions smoothly and professionally.

By following the clear steps outlined above, solicitors can ensure that Revolut accounts are managed efficiently within the estate—minimising delays and providing peace of mind to executors and beneficiaries.
